What is a brand?

A brand essentially refers to the perception customers have about a product or service. A brand is a name, term, sign, symbol, or design or a combination of them, intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of the competitor.

What is a logo?

A logo is a design symbolising one’s organisation. It is a design that is used by an organisation for its website, letterhead, advertising material, and signs as an emblem by which the organisation can easily be recognised.

How do I know if I need a new website?

Ask yourself whether you can easily update your own website when you want to. Is it a chore each time? Or perhaps you have to contact your web designer each time you want to upload a new photograph or change some text?

How old is your site? If it’s older than two years it may be worth checking over. If it’s older than 5 years, there’s a good chance it won’t meet today’s standards for mobile responsiveness (does it work well on a phone), security and search engine optimisation.

Has your business or the work you’re doing changed since your website was built? Are you still happy with the design of your website, or is it time to update? How does your website compare with your competitor’s sites? Do you ever say “my website is www…. , but please, don’t look at it”?

How will a new website enhance my engineering business?

Engineering firms are in a great position to embrace cutting edge marketing technologies within the digital landscape. With engineering now a more globalised profession than ever before, web must play an integral role in any business strategy to ensure you’re connecting with domestic and international clients, and staying ahead of the increasingly global competition.

Your branding and digital presence should not be about ticking a box, but should reflect your extensive experience and professionalism, while creating an immersive and user centric experience for your audience that encourages growth against your business objectives.

Transforming your online presence is a low-hanging fruit that can be easily targeted with the right advice, but could produce dramatic benefits for the overall success of your business.

What is a CMS?

A content management system (CMS) is a computer application that supports the creation and modification of digital content. It is often used to support multiple users working in a collaborative environment.

CMS features vary widely. Most CMSs include Web-based publishing, format management, history editing and version control, indexing, search, and retrieval. By their nature, content management systems support the separation of content and presentation.

A web content management system (WCM or WCMS) is a CMS designed to support the management of the content of Web pages. Most popular CMSs are also WCMSs. Web content includes text and embedded graphics, photos, video, audio, maps, and program code(e.g., for applications) that displays content or interacts with the user.

Which CMS will Plum use for my website?

Plum uses WordPress, the most popular CMS on the web with a leading focus on ease of use, speed and user experience.

Digital Marketing

What is SEO?

It is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines such as Google.

How does SEO work?

All major search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo have primary search results, where web pages and other content such as videos or local listings are shown and ranked based on what the search engine considers most relevant to users. Payment isn’t involved, as it is with paid search ads.

SEO is the activity that attempts to improve search engine rankings.

In search results Google displays links to pages it considers relevant and authoritative. Authority is mostly measured by analysing the number and quality of links from other web pages. In simple terms your web pages have the potential to rank in Google so long as other web pages link to them.

There are hundreds of factors that Google take into consideration when ranking a website. Currently, some of the most ranking factors include:

  • Quality content
  • Mobile responsiveness
  • Backlinks
  • Page speed
  • Schema code
  • Social signals
  • Domain power

What is SEM?

Search engine marketing (SEM) is a form of internet marketing that involves the promotion of websites by increasing their visibility in search engine results pages (SERPs) primarily through paid advertising.

How does SEM work?

The objective of (SEM) is to drive traffic to your website with the intent of converting those visitors into customers.

Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is the most common form of paid SEM. PPC ads are the ones you see at the top of your Google search with the word “ad” written discreetly next to the link. Search engines such as Google sell keywords to the highest bidder. One of the nice things about this form of advertising is that – as the name suggests – you only pay for the ad when someone actually clicks on it.

Other forms of paid SEM include banner ads, remarketing as well as ads on social media sites such as Facebook or YouTube.

It is usually not necessary for a business to engage in all of these forms of SEM but we do usually recommend a mix depending on the business and its specific goals.
